How to vote in Czechia

The European elections will take place in Czechia on Friday 7 June (14:00-22:00) and Saturday 8 June (8:00-14:00) 2024.

In the 2024 European Elections, voters will choose 21 Members of the European Parliament, which is the same number as in the 2019 elections.

Under EU law, all countries must use voting systems that ensure proportional representation, which means that the number of elected members from each party depends on the share of electoral votes obtained by the party. Czechia uses preferential voting, which gives voters the option to indicate their preferences within the party list they choose. Candidates who receive the most preferences are more likely to be elected.

The lists of candidates will be published 48 days before elections on the elections website of the Czech Statistical Office.

As a voter, you can ask the municipal office and, on election days, the district election commission for serious reasons, especially health reasons, to be able to vote outside the polling station in a portable ballot box. There is no prescribed form for submitting an application, you can do so in writing or orally (e.g. by phone). However, the local electoral commission can only dispatch its members with a portable ballot box within the scope of their electoral district. You can also ask another voter to assist you with voting in the polling station.
