How to vote in Hungary

Hungarian citizens and citizens of other Member States of the EU who are eligible to stand as a candidate and nominated on a party list. Party list and candidates can be found on the website of the National Election Office (in Hungarian).

Political parties wishing to stand for the elections have to obtain the valid endorsement of nominations by 03/05/2024.

The electoral threshold is 5%, so parties would need to gain more than 5% of all the valid votes cast.

Hungary has only one constituency.

You are eligible to vote in the European elections in Hungary if you are:

1. at least 18 years old on election day or get married before the age of 18
2. a Hungarian or an EU citizen with a legal residence in Hungary
3. Hungarian citizen without residence in Hungary or the territory of the EU
4. not banned from voting due to a judicial decision

You have to vote in person at the polling station based on your residence. The location of your polling station is in the letter of advice. If you want to vote at another polling station, you have to submit a request.

Hungarian citizen voting from abroad

• If you live in another EU country and have no official address in Hungary, you cannot vote for Hungarian lists.
  
• If you live outside the EU and have no official address in Hungary, you can vote by mail.
  
• If you live in Hungary but have no official address in Hungary, you can vote by mail.
  
• If you have a Hungarian address but want to vote from abroad, you have to do so in person at polling stations organised by the Hungarian embassy or consulate of the country where you are.

• If you have an official address in Hungary, you do not have to register. You will be automatically registered on the electoral roll by the authorities.

If you have an official address in Hungary, you have to register to the voters list of a Hungarian embassy or consulate until 31/05/2024 16:00. If you live outside the EU and have no address in Hungary, you have to register until 15/05/2024 16:00.

You have to bring your identification document (valid ID card, passport or driving licence) and your residence card.
