Voters on the electoral register usually vote at the polling station in the place of their permanent residence. If voters cannot vote on the day of the elections, they can vote in early elections at the polling station set for this occasion by the local electoral commission. Early voting polling stations will be published at the website of the State Election Commission. Early voting takes place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in the week of the elections. There are no special conditions for taking part in early voting. Voters who will be away from the place of their permanent residence on polling day and who wish to vote at a polling station outside their place of permanent residence, must communicate their intention to the local electoral commission no later than three days before the elections. In each district, there are so-called OMNIA polling stations, where voters from other districts can cast their vote.

There are two categories: voters who have registered permanent residence in Slovenia, and who are therefore in the general electoral register for a polling station area within Slovenia, and who on polling day are temporarily abroad (expatriates); and voters who have emigrated from Slovenia and are entered in a special electoral register of Slovenian citizens who do not have registered permanent residence in Slovenia (emigrated Slovenians). Expatriates can vote at the diplomatic or consular representation of Slovenia or by post from abroad, but they have to inform the State Election Commission about their intention to vote. Emigrated Slovenians can decide whether they want to vote at diplomatic or consular representation of Slovenia, by post or at special polling station OMNIA.
